Uncompressed RAW: Any advantage over Lossless Compressed RAW?
Mar 26, 2012

Looking at the file-sizes for D800 for 14-bit NEF shooting, I see that 14-bit NEF/RAW Uncompressed is 74.4MB and 14-bit NEF/RAW Lossless Compressed is 41.3MB.

My question is simple: Since there is no difference between the two in image quality, is there EVER a time when you'd want to shoot in Uncompressed NEF/RAW over Lossless Compressed?

(also if you shoot in Lossless Compressed, when does the actual de-compression happen? is it when you open up files in applications ViewNX? is that perhaps the advantage of Uncompressed, so that you get no lag in those apps?)
