Pentax SDM Quality Control

Hi all, if any of you have seen my other posts I'm trying to get into a new system. My roommate has a K5 and I like the feel of it and it has some excellent qualities for the class it is priced in.

However he has said that his 16-50 and 50-135 both had issues with the SDM motors and ended up paying to have them fixed. This was a while ago, and they work fine now, but has the quality control of the motors gotten any better?
