If you are the type of person that will spend the time needed to learn how to get the most out of a pro-level focusing mechanism you might also find value in learning how video--pro video is really shot. I have to say it was an eye-opener for me.

The MKII's video capability spurred me to dive in and discover what was possible and learn new skills. Today, I use an iPhone or aging DV tape camcorder for the quick, "no brainer" stuff and the MKII (soon III) for times when the content calls for amazing quality. Take a look at cinema5D.com if you want to get a sense of the skills and added equipment needed to shoot great video. To me, it is a specialized arena, like panoramic photography, that pays back the effort you put in.

Personally, I think it is appropriate for a pro or prosumer camera.

BTW, if you want to just grab a quick clip with your MKIII, use your stills skills. Stop down far enough to give you generous depth of field and keep your subject in the zone.
