Is it? They look relatively sharp on my monitor, in fact I think some might be over sharpened as I set sharpness to hard.

Sorry, by 'soft' I meant not so much the sharpness but their rather faded (or hazy/toneless ?) look. Although the sharpness in some is not so good but I'll agree that in most it is adequate.

I'm guessing the flatness is mainly due to the jpeg engine, it's more obvious with smaller sensor.

Afterall each X10 filesize (6MP) is just 2.5-3MB big, the same DSLR 12MP raw -> jpeg gives me > 10MB per filesize. That amount of data really makes a difference in the image quality.

I have to say X10 serves its purpose well
