No Go with Sigma 120-400mm

Wanted to check the performance of the V1 with the FT-1 adapter with the Sigma 120-400mm attached...got an error message on the LCD (as well as the EVF) -- "Check lens - Pictures can only be taken when a lens is attached."
Hmmm.... I would assume that the V1 doesn't play well with Sigma lenses. Anyone else experience this?
