Thank you all for the kind words. After shooting at this track for many years I've learned a few tricks for minimising the impact of the fence on the images:

1) Find a spot where the safety fence is fairly close but the track is a fair distance away (such as when there's a gravel trap or run off area)
2) Use the longest lens you have and the widest aperture.

3) For F1 I've found between 1/125 and 1/350 to be the best for blurring out the fence while keeping the car sharp.

4) If the conditions are bright, I use a ND filter to keep the shutter speeds to where I want them.

5) The ideal situation is where the track is in bright sunlight and the fence is in shadow. I was lucky enough to find a spot like this for Button's last laps:
