X10 shutter lag

Maybe it's just me, but I constantly am having this experience: I take a photo, often of my son, and the image I see pause on the screen when I hit the shutter is perfect, but then the actual captured image is just a split second later and usually a totally missed shot. They advertise really low shutter lag though. Is there a setting that causes this? Am I doing something wrong? I'm usually in Aperture or shutter priority in either large or medium RAW + JPG.
