Olympus 12mm f2 VS Panasonic 7-14mm (for EM-5)
Mar 20, 2012

I was dead set on buying the 12mm f2 prime for wide angle street shooting. But the lack of a black version really bugged me. Not only does it look ugly on a black EM-5 but its going to really stick out.

For $800 I dont want to have these concerns. I don't want to have to buy it twice when a black version eventually comes out either.

I started looking into 7-14mm and while I don't dig zooms, it does seem like a nice piece of glass with good reviews. I do get quite alot of extra flexibility for $200 more. The 12mm-14mm focal length is what I really want but the wides end should be fun to play with also.

The reviews seems to indicate that it is quite sharp right through out.

The olympus is 2 stops faster. But I wonder how important thats going to be with the great noise control on the Olympus as well 5 axis IBIS? Shallow DOF isn't important at this focal length.

Has anyone got any thoughts or experience with these lenses that they can share? Thanks in advance

p.s I plan to buy the 45mm 1.8, 25mm Summilux/Voigtlander as well.
