windows 8 release and the end of desktops

I have been reading on line articles about Windows 8 release and that it is primarily better designed for laptops and mobile devices first and desktops secondary. Is this true that desktops are on their way out? I thought desktops were a must for excellent digital photography editing with the ability to have a seperate superior monitor?
