It's possibly a combination of the 2. It is an old aluminum tripod from the 60s or 70s and not in good shape anymore. It's my jungle tripod :), and stays down here in guyana.

All of the examples they showed online for the sky stacker program were of star only photos, but I wasn't able to get far enough away from the trees to keep them out of the wide angle shot. Next free night I get I'm going to try some with a slightly longer lens.
