Nex-5N vs Nex-7 resolution - downsampled, is there a difference?
Mar 17, 2012

Ok, so I stopped by a local duck pond and took shots with both 5N and 7, mainly to check the kit zoom lens (more on that in another post).

I also tried to verify the Nex-5N and Nex-7 results in terms of resolution. For this, I downsampled the Nex-7 images to the Nex-5N resolation. Workflow is RAW.

It is quite confusing, as the 1:1 image in the 7 is not the same as the 5N, and the 7 has more resolution to begin with, but I am slowly convincing myself that a 7 picture will render more detail AFTER downsampling, even at the LOWER resolution.

Anyone care to explain why this is so? I did not expect this.
Note: the JPGs have same resolution, but are larger in size.

First is with Nex-5N, second is with Nex-7, both at 200mm.

Below are with the Nex-7, at Nex-5N resolution (so they can be uploaded here).
