DPI (Dots Per Inch) only affects printing output. Think of it as a scaling factor for how large the picture will be on the page. Higher DPI means it crams more pixels into an inch area so the smaller the image will be on the page.
Higher DPI=smaller image on page.

All printers have a DPI limit so going higher will lose detail. Printing too large and you will see the pixel blocks.
