I recently spent 7 days in China (Shanghai, Tianjin, Beijing) with a D300s. I brought along the 35/1.8 G, the Tokina 11-16/2.8 and a borrowed 18-135 crappy kit lens (the only standard zoom I own is the too-heavy-for-travel 17-55/2.8 G).

Looking back at the photos, I'd say that the 35 and 18-135 got equal use (maybe 90% of the shots between then) and the Tokina handled the last 10%.

Now, of the keepers the 35 clearly won out. I used it for some great panoramas of the Pudong skyline in Shanghai, the Forbidden City in Beijing and the Great Wall.

The statement from Neil Morgan about smog was very very true. Most shots at longer than 100mm were pretty washed out. Sometimes that gave a cool effect though.
