Breakfast challenge - cant resist whining

Hi guys,

I am a relative newbie photographer and am quite used to low challenge scores ( I enter a lot of them to get feedback and try to improve). I try not to go crying about coming in last or second to last...most of the time.
This time however, I just dont get it. I got an avg rating of 1.6 on this photo:

and there is a really nice photo right behind me that also feel was judged too harshly, so I know its not personal.

At first I thought I missedread the rules about having people in the photo, but there was no such rule, then i went through and looked at the entries again and there were some ( i thought) poorer images with children/people in them that scores substaintially higher.

Am I being a sore loser? If so would really appreciate some tips.
