Hi dude,

Beijing is super for photography.
Firstly 5 free days, here what we did
1. Forbidden city. huge
2. Beihai park. Its behind forbidden city - beautiful
3. Summer palace - awesome
4. Great wall + Ming tombs bus trip (1 full day) - amazing
5. Tiantan park - serene

Make sure you take a tripod for some night shots and if you can stay near Tienanmen Square because Beihai, forbidden city and Tiantan Park are all within walking distance if you are moderately fit.

Take a flash, wide lens (14-24 FF or 12-24 apsc) and a lens between moderate zoom (say 24-70 on FF or 16-50 apsc). Don't bother taking a longer lens, there too much smog, sometimes visibility is down to 100mtr. Plenty of low light ops.
Take a polarizer too

If you look at my flickr page under China, you see some shots from Beijing.

Everywhere is a photo op, forget the olympic stuff the old stuff is so much better.

Cheers Neil
