I think this deserves to be highlighted, some may have missed it, and results are phenomenal!. Original post for tool is here:

I just selected a few relevant cameras:

This indicates the new Nikons will set the standard for DR in dslrs (actually possibly any digital camera/format in the case of D800E and likely for D800 as well). The d800E's DR was kind of expected given the D7000's performance. What's really unexpected is the improvement for the D4 at low ISOs and the more linear behavior compared to D3s and otehr Nikon designs.

In spie of some improvement with the 5D3, Canon is still b ehind in that dept, actually even behind the previous generation of Nikon sensors, not to mention Sony/Nikon line.
