Tamron 17-50 VC - Sharpness issues around the corners

i have no complaints about the iq of mine - very sharp from wide open and minimal distortion, but i hate the often hunting whiney af and lack of full time manual over-ride and while the lens has a nice solid and chunky feel the plastic finish looks cheap.
