What happened to Canon papers???

First I noticed about 9 months ago that Canon no longer has their big sales on papers every month. Now I cannot even find Canon paper! Their own direct store has no 4x6 paper in stock (except matte) and hasn't for over 3 months. Other resalers like Adorama, B&H, etc all show backorders. I wrote Canon and was told some generic response tatamount to 'we will get some in soon'. It is as if they are getting out of the printing business or going out of business in general. I am being forced to go elsewhere when all I have used is Canon papers and inks to date. Does anyone else know what is going on with Canon?
