Odd autofocus problem on my e30

Single autofocus was working, continuous autofocus did nothing at all, and with my 50-200 I can't even manually adjust in C-AM MF mode.

I cleaned the contacts, no joy. I did a reset figuring that perhaps I had set something that was incompatible with C-AF - and Voila! success,

Any idea what actually caused this so I can avoid it in the future?
