Tethered Shooting - D300

I have a notion to try some shooting that would probably be best conducted by tethering the camera to a laptop and controlling the shooting parameters from the laptop.

I know there is at least one program from Nikon that can do this but the name escapes me. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, are there any third party apps of this sort worth investigating?
