Considering a Uni-loc tripod
Mar 13, 2012

I have an induro 314 and a RRS BH-55 head which I love but...

I want to be able to shoot vertical still-lifes from above. My current backup tripod is an alta-pro at 263AT ( http://www.amazon.com/Vanguard-Aluminum-Tripod-Multiple-Central/dp/B002C9EGHU ) which can have the arm extended horizontally but the whole rig is somewhat cheap and rickety.

Years ago I had a uni-loc MA1600 and I always regretted selling it. I eventually replaced it with a Benbo tripod but they are now made in china and are cheap junk so I eventually ditched that as well.

I have seen that benro, induro and several other companies are making tripods where you can reposition the center column horizontally but none seem as sturdy as the uniloc.

So I'm thinking of replacing my alta-pro with a uni-loc but wanted to find out if like benbo, they too are now made of pot metal and junk components?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
