Sigma 17-50 gets my vote. Sharp, fast and accurate AF, very good OS, compact design, constant F2.8 and a really, really good price. I just printed a couple pictures that were taken handheld with the Sigma. One was taken in bright sunlight and the other taken at a MLB stadium during a night event. I think one is 12x18 and the other is 20x24m, so they are a decent size. Both photos look fantastic printed at this size. These were the first enlargements I have made from the 7D and Sigma combo, and I a very impressed and satisfied. When comparing the Sigma and Tamron, just listening to the AF will probably push you to the Sigma. The Tamron does not have their new AF system, which is quite good and will be a vast improvement to what they currently have.
