walkaround zoom for D800

Hi Nikonians,

Currently a Canon-user but tempted to go D800. I like most of the specs better than the 5d mark III. The most obvious lens choice seems the 24-120 f/4, but read some bad things about it. I like the reach to towards the tele end, and not too interested in going wider. So any suggestions?
