Nikon D800 shooting without a tripod

From what I understand the pixel density on the D800 is similar to APS sensors of 16 mp. I know there are lots of folks using 16 mp cameras hand held so I assume results hand held with the d800 would be similar. Also I think a good comparison would be to hand held 35mm film camera. Handheld with with a 70's era Nikon F and Canon F1 I get great results as the cameras are heavy (I much prefer heavy cameras as they are easier to hold steady) while with a later lighter plastic body SLR it was more of a challenge to get sharp shots due to mirror slap and camera shake.

Initially I will be using my D800 with old Nikon AF lenses. It will be interesting to see how well these lenses that are great when shooting film do with the 36 mp sensor.
Lastly I have a Tokina 28-200 manual focus zoom I plan to use for video.
