Lens hood, filter or both?

I have a 60D with the kit lens (18-135) and 35mm f/2. I've been using a hood and filter on both but waned to verify I've been going to best route. The filter for the 35mm is a Hoya HMC UV(c) which I have been doing most of my shooting with since purchasing it recently. Any downside (indoor or out) for using both?
