Who else wishes the 1D X and 5D III have iPad control/view?

AGREED! You can't even transfer a video from your camera to the ipad using the camera kit. VERY LAME.

However, there are several android tablets and phones that support USB host capability which allow you to use DSLR controller.

They don't provide Hosted USB or a way to back-door it. They also don't allow you to have ANY external storage. Did I say lame?
I am an iPhone user, so it would be great if the iPad worked for this app.

The B&N Nook Color which is Android based can be set up to do this.

The App is called "DSLR Controller" Yes, you need to root it & to do some tweeks.
But it works on just about any Canon model that has live view.



The iPad clearly has a screen size advantage, but the Nook is lots cheaper.
