600D/T3i - why mirror goes down when shutter snaps in LiveView

Hello. I have just got my brand new 600D. As I shoot timelapse photography and sometimes can shoot several thousands of frames one day - I was hoping that I could shoot in LiveView mode (this would save mirror mechanism going up and down each with each shutter release) + with flippy screen closed (this preserves battery = back LCD is switched off).
But when I tested LV shooting I have noticed that mirror, when shutter releases, goes down and up! What is this for? Does anyone know a way how to disable mirror going down and up in LV shooting? Such behaviour of the mirror does make any sense for me...
