Far too many compact cameras give poor implementations of the close focus mode they call macro or super macro.

Too many of them only work at one zoom setting, usually the widest angle. This means you must be so close to the subject, you will scare it away, if it can flee, fly, or swim..

The x10 has good close focus mode at all zoom focal lengths, which gives you lots of framing choices.

The nikon p7100 does not. Only 'macro' at absolute wide angle. As I recall the lx5 is the same way. I had one for a few weeks, but now I can't remember...
