Nobody's mentioned the a33 yet. It's my entry-DSLR and I'm loving it. It's missing a number of advanced features, most of which i don't need as a beginner, but has many more features than the truly entry-level DSLRs too. It's distinguished from many of the other DSLRs, including most alphas, by having a flip down LCD, which was key for me.
I stole one for $480 (body only) around Christmas but I think the price has gone up. Look around though. Good camera.
