How I picture 3x3 binning
In reply to ronm2008, Mar 6, 2012

This is what I'm thinking of whenever 3x3 binning is mentioned. It would use every pixel on the active portion of the sensor but 9 pixels of a similar color would get binned together, producing a smaller Bayer pattern 1920 pixels wide. This could be way way off and is just a guess based on how the 5DII is suspected to work but expanding the binning process to use rows in addition to columns.

Again, this could be way off but I'm pretty sure that reading the individual values of all 18.66 million pixels at up to 30 times a second is out of the question, that's way too much data, it will have to cheat somehow.
