Tried the 5D3 and 1X at Focus on Imaging
Mar 5, 2012

Both are really great cameras and a significant step up from the previous models. If you need the focal length, maybe stick with the 1V4 or 7D. Otherwise these are great. The grain at high iso is very well controlled. The AF in the 5D3 is what the 5D2 should have been.

The main difference is their bulk. The 5D3 could deffinately be used as a street camera - providing you don't throw the vertical grip on it. Its a very similar size to its predecessors. Especial if you use a non L length for keeping the overall size down. The 1X will be a great sport / low light / birding / etc.

Is the 1X worth the price. Yes. It's going to be used by professionals who make a living from there equipment.

Is the 5D3 worth the price. Yes. It will also be used by pros who make a living from their equipment. The AF alone is worth the upgrade. I've struggled with low light wedding pics in the past with both the 5d and the 5d2 even center point at > F2. So this will really help.
