IMVVHO the lenses to look for are the OM 50/1.4, latest seven digit serial number, OM 50/2 macro, and 85/2. The very best are supposed to be the OM 90/2ED macro and the OM 100/2 ED but I have seen only pictures of them. There is nothing quite exciting in the m42 camp in these fovcal length. I have the 50/1.4 smc Takumar and it is fairly good but not like the OM 50/1.4. I know nothin about Hexanons. Have only the 135/2.5 and the 50/1.4 and do not find anything exceptional about them.

Agree, I'd the OM 50/1.4 above the MD 50/1.4, the Rokkor 50/1.4, the SMC Tak 50/1.4 and the Hex 50/1.7. The Yashica ML 50/1.7 is very sharp, probably as sharp as the OM, but its rendering is... cold! The Minolta 45/2 is barely ok on m4/3.

But again, I use Legacy Lenses for their rendering and not for sharpness. For Sharpness, the m4/3 Oly 45mm left them all (the ones mentioned above) in the dust, it's sharp wide-open.

btw, the 50ish I have:
OM 1.4, OM 1.8
Rokkor 50/1.4, Rokkor 50/1.7, Rokkor 45/2, Rokkor PG 58/1.4
Minolta MD 50/1.4, Minolta MD 50/1.7, Minolta 50/2
Yashica ML 50/1.7, Yashica ML 50/2
Hexanon 50/1.7, Hexanon 40/1.8
Helios 44m-6 58/2
SMC Tak 50/1.4
