an orchestral rehearsal
Mar 4, 2012

Hi all

Yesterday in the UK was 'Music Nation' day as part of the 'Cultural Olympiad' (part of the hoopla in the run up to the olympic games). No doubt it passed most people by... But the youth orchestra I help to manage had an 'open' rehearsal at which anyone with an instrument could roll up and sight-read Rachmaninov symphony no. 2 - not for the faint hearted - followed by a play-through in the afternoon. Good fun and some of the performance was actually recognisable.

As I had to hang around for the day I brought my camera bag along (K7 + DA16-45 and DAL55-300, DA35Ltd, Tamron 28-75). Most pics were taken with the Tammy 28-75 which is ideal for this type of environment. Light was usual indoor-hall poor (side windows plus overhead tungsten bulbs) so I set the camera to TAv mode, 1/60 sec at f/2.8 and let the ISO float - usually it ended up at 1600.

c/c welcome
Best wishes
