I think that for portraits 5D II is definitely better, thanks to shallower DOF. I dont see any problems with AF or shutter lag for portrait/fashion photography.
If you shoot small wild birds in flight, than you may need better AF than 5D II, for almost any other use it is better camera.
However I don't understand complaints about 7D noise, if you print the noise is not visible. I have large 90x60cm exhibition prints from slightly cropped 7D files that was shot at iso 800 and it looks perfect.
