Yeah I really don't know what Canon's thinking is but your right in that the D800 is going to cost them sales and more worryingly "system switchers".

I believe Canon's latest sensor technology is going to be showcased later this year. The video camera gives us a hint of what's to come I'm told.

But if it is a 1Xs type how will it compete against the D800. For still photographers who want more MP's will they be willing to pay the price difference between the D800 ($3000) and the 1DXs which will likely come in at about $8000 if history repeats itself. I know that some video people might want the increased video capabilities but will there be a significant market for us stills people at that price differential? After all, the D800 looks mighty good for a $3000 camera.

PS- Several years ago you hinted at a completely new sensor type for Canon coming along in a few years. It that still on the radar?
