Grad ND filter through adapter

hello

I am looking for a grad nd filter for the 14-42x lens which takes filters with of 37mm. Unfortunately, it seems that none of the main brands make any grad nd filter for in 37mm. Do you reckon a grad filter will work as expected with a 37-52mm adapter?
