What's wrong with 5D II autofocus?
Mar 3, 2012

I'm one of the many Canon 20-60D enthusiast (not pro) users who have been holding out for the 5D III only to find that now it's here (almost) it is way too expensive to justify.

I am now thinking of alternative, and favourite would have to be the 5D II which I am all but certain would represent a fantastic upgrade from my 40D. However I have read lots about its "poor" autofocus system. I have heard comments such as "You really can only use the center AF point reliably as this is the only one that is a cross type". Is this really so, because I frequently use non-centre autofocus points on my 40D rather than focussing then recomposing. Is it "poor" relative to a 40D?

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
