X100 I am going to be honest!
Mar 2, 2012

I am new to the Fuji forum, but not to the NEX, they are sick of me complaining about the lens selection over there!

You will see by my history I have been trying to get a good balance of high end product and portability.

I have really struggled with the NEX having had two NEX 7 and various lenses.

My main issue is the lens selection

Kit lens - soft out of the centre

18-200 - good but defeats the object of a compact body

24.f1.8 - excellent but very expensive

16mm - very average

I have also tried the Sony 16-50 with the adaptor, good results but again adds significant bulk.

SO, I had an offer last week for the NEX 7 (what I paid for it) and I am now looking for "another" camera! yes I am a gear head!

In steps the X100, I know it has its idiosyncrasiess but I think it will tick most of the boxes for me as a walkabout and landscapes etc.

Now I know it won't satisfy me whole needs, so I will also be buying a DSLR at the photo show this weekend. This will be used for more specialist work, like sport or BIF etc.

My thoughts that the NEX 7 would be the answer to all my prayers has unfortunately not transpired.

Great body and I so much wanted to like it, but lack of high quality zoom lenses and also no 300mm means its too much of a compromise.

Some people will say here he goes again, but since selling my 7D 10 months ago I have been looking for the perfect hybrid, unfortunately I don't think there is one.

Perhaps I will return to NEX when the lenses arrive!

Until then I am looking forward to the X100, most interesting is I really think it will change my view on how I compose images, it just felt an enjoyable camera to use.

Here are some of the shots that I may have struggled to get with the NEX but also a few I hope I could get with the Fuji

Will post some images when I get the X100

Think I would struggle to get this with NEX lens at moment, without pushing ISO to 1600 or so

Hopefully can get this with Fuji X100

Not sure I would have got this with NEX - 300mm!

X100 would get this

and this?

and this

But maybe not this?

Oh and maybe not this? need another DLSR for that studio heads

Canon EOS 7D Fujifilm FinePix X100 Sony Alpha NEX-7
