The reason for 22 MP sensor in 5DIII
Mar 2, 2012

Many people seem to be disappointed about 5D3 being only 22 MP resolution. On the other hand some seem to be happy about it. But what do you think is the main reason Cannon didn't put more MPs in this camera?

Is it because more MPs give worse dynamic range (does it?)? Or because more MPs means more noise? Is it because the current lenses are not good enough for higher MPs? Does more MPs bring problems to AF speed/accuracy? At least more MPs create larger files and slower FPS. Could this be the reason for 22MP? There must be good reasons why Canon chose 22MP over f.x. 30 MP. What are the real pros and cons of 5D3's 22 MPs and D800s 36 MPs?
