this is what their spec for the MKII says:

Quieter operation

New transmission motor significantly reduces the operating noise, the volume level (70dB or less) is achieved.
Not sure what that level represents.

I'm a little older than some of you so perhaps this flash is best for those with diminishing hearing

Threshold of hearing.....................0 dB
Outdoors, no people or traffic..........20 dB
Background noise in a library...........40 dB
Ordinary speaking voice.................60 dB
Heavy traffic...........................85 dB
Power lawnmower up close................90 dB
Motorcycle (rider)......................90 dB
Chainsaw...............................100 dB
Rock music at concert..................110 dB
Jet plane takeoff at 100 yards.........120 dB
Threshold of pain......................140 dB

...even my highly praised Metz 58 AF 2 has a fairly loud motor zoom...that would be the negative aspect of most shoe mounted motorzoom flashes.

wow ..so on that basis it is supposed to generate noise somewhere between an ordinary speaking voice and heavy traffic. I'm sitting here trying mine again and it is nowhere near that loud and is making absolutely no noise at all when turned on and at rest.
I'll try the different modes:
Auto: nothing ..and no zoom control in that mode so no zoom noise

TTL: nothing ..and the only control in that mode is EV and no noise when adjusting
M/AV - M: just the motor noise and it sounds kind of neat ..a confident noise
M/AV - Av: as above
Multi: as above
Wireless - Master: as above
Wireless - Remote: as above
Tools: No settings to turn noise on other than the buzzer

So bottom line is I don't seem to have the noise generating type like are being described by others. My serial# is 180912079 in case anyone wants to see how far away from that thier's is.

By the way I just tried it on my D7000 as well and as I zoom the lens the flash makes a slight noise but it is not loud at all (nowhere near a normal speaking voice) and it sounds 'solid' and 'precise'. I wonder if I just got lucky?
