6fps at 1/8000th of a sec but at 1/125th?

6fps is a shutter speed if 1/6. Therefore, anything faster than that will yield the advertised 6fps.

I have a 50D (in addition to my 5D Mk II), and I easily get its advertised frame rate at anything faster than 1/8.
