Gordon, with my K20D the "legal" AF setting is applied on top of the "debug menu" setting. Though keep in mind that the debug menu uses units of um (micrometers) whereas the legal setting goes from -10 to 10 (without units). Some folks have said that 1 iin the legal setting = 10 um, and this correlates with my own tests.
I can confirm the K-7 behaves the same way.
