Indoor Lowlight sports problems
Feb 28, 2012

First post, followed a couple of threads pertaining to shooting indoor soccer, basketball, Lacrosse, etc to get some general shooting setting advise. Currently borrowing a T3i to see if I can get what I want without having to go up to the 7D. Knowing I will buy Canon, I just purchased a Sigma HSM II DG APO 70-200 2.8.

1st game was pretty good, colors & brightness were distinctly better then the kit lenses on a Nikon D60 & Rebel XSi. Very little post editing was needed. 2nd game at a less well lit rink was a problem. Both games were shot on the "TV" setting, 800 ISO, at either 1/250 or 1/320. Sample pics from last night (#2275 zoom at 126mm,f2.8, 1/250, spot metering, AI servo, AWB), (#2488 zoom at 70mm, f2.8, 1/250, 800 ISO, center weighted metering, AI servo, AWB)

My question, is this what I can expect? Really would not like to go any higher on the ISO, and at 1/250 I'm already way below the shutter speed I'd like to use, expected a lot more light from the Sigma f2.8 zoom, review on this site only has an issue with soft focus at 200mm. Am I missing an important setting?

Canon EOS 600D (EOS Rebel T3i / EOS Kiss X5) Canon EOS 7D
