Look at this awful flare from a UV filter

I know I'm opening a can of worms with this thread; I can practically hear the preparing encampments of the two battlements on both sides of the UV filter--to-leave-on-camera-or-not debate. But I thought I'd post anyway just for fun.
So, this is a succession (minus one) of three pictures shot with a Sony a33 using a Sigma 18-250 HSM lens with the Hoya HD UV filter on (72mm). You'll see that I'm in no way bragging with these pics -- I've taken better composted shots with my iPhone. I had just come outside and my kid was whizzing by me, so I lifted the camera and shot. The awful glare from the UV filter made me think I should share it with the world for discussion.
