It's yet to be seen if D800 in APS-H mode is better than D700 in noise department. What I believe is that D800 36MP when downsampled to 12MP have less visible noise than D700 files, and I nowhere wrote contrary. What I wrote is that I believe is that D4 sensor performs better than any of these at high ISO.

Only what I(and many other users) want is D4 sensor in D800 body for similar price as D800. There is market for such camera. Offcourse if Nikon ever release that type of body it wouldn't be now when D4 is new to market. But recent Nikon statements regarding of D700 and D800 position in the market suggests that we could get D4 sensor in D800 style as a true D700 successor.

The D800 offers better ISo performance at 25mp than the D700 at 12mp. It is only when you look at the 36mp file that there is a PERCEPTION of more noise. It is only a perception because the image is so big. If you reduce the size, you see that the D800 offers clearly better iso than the D700. In fact it is very very close to the D3S, and gives a lot more detail to play with!! It can be used safely up to 3200. Above 3200, the files need to be downsized to 16mp to give still better performance than D700 because more detail....In all cases it is better than the D700, except if you look at a full 36mp photo ISO 3200+. There is anyway no other camera which gives such huge photos with such iso quality.
