A note about moiré on a D800
Feb 26, 2012

The D800E is an interesting camera - I am speculating about acquiring a D800 simply for the high pixel count. However, for those that are considering the D800E, there is an obvious risk of moiré when you least like it. Not only that, the D800, with AA filter, will definitely have some moiré issues of it's own - although probably no where near as severe as the D800E.

In other words, for those considering the D800E cameras, make sure you KNOW what to expect

Here is a q&d edit of a shot I did earlier Saturday afternoon with a Canon 5D-II. This camera, with a relatively strong AA filter, can experience moiré - just like the D800 with AA - of course, depending upon the nature of the subject, shooting distance, focal length, etc.

The basic shot... the moiré is in the red dress just below the neck:

The moiré blown up. This is annoyingly visible in an 8x10 print
