Very worried after dpreview´s Canon G1 X studio test samples

why the dpreview studio test shots of the G1 X are not necessarily indicative of real world shooting. There was a proviso attached to the G1 X shots on this subject by the dpr staff, and the question is what camera settings were used in the test shots which would allow us to reasonably conclude that real world shots would be better than the results seen in the test.

Gary said it has something to do with telephoto? I think that may play a part, but I am suggesting that dpreview may have also set the camera to macro focusing, which might explain the poor peripheral focusing - perhaps macro mode causes a curvature of the focus plane?

Anybody have any insight on this hypothesis?
