Pancake primes are only feasible around the format's register distance, which is about 20mm in our case. We already have an excellent pancake prime at that length, plus a wider one that is ok at best, and I doubt that anyone sees a strong need to make another one.

Is this a well known fact that can't be changed? Is there a thread that discusses this fact? What is the amount of variance from the register distance that would allow it to be a pancake? m4/3 is 20mm and there is a 14mm. NEX is 18mm and there is a 16mm? This is really interesting because it could completely turn me away from NEX.
