Is shooting during mid-day a good idea for landscapes?

I was just told that shooting mid-day(11:00 - 2:00) was ok for landscape photography. I was interested in a landscape workshop, but this idea goes against everything I have learned previously. I am interested in a workshop to the high sierra's and was inquiring about downtime etc with one particular company, but I now question his abilities. Am I right or wrong? Is the idea of shooting mid-day bogus. I DOnt think So! Before He told me this, I was going to sign -up tomorrow! Now Im not so sure!!!!
