Lens filter/protector suggestions needed.

If you use film, get the UV, or better yet, a skylight filter. With digital, there is no noticeable difference between the types of clear filters. A brass ring means it will be less likely to get stuck on the lens. The better the multi-coating on the filter, the less it will degrade the contrast of your image.
